Insects are a keystone species (they’re CRITICAL for ecosystem health)

Keystone Species

Insects are a keystone species for healthy ecosystems.

If food waste were a country, it would be the 3rd largest GHG emitting! 🌏

By co-locating mini insect farms with waste, we divert waste from landfills while creating valuable animal feed and fertilizer products. What’s the demand for “nutrient recovery” (that’s what we do) services? Big.

  • If food waste were a country, it would be the 3rd largest GHG emitting (right after the US and China!)

  • While the challenges are complex, the solutions are simple: feed insects, not landfills.

Black Soldier Fly

Black soldier flies (BSF) - hermetia illucens - are voracious eaters, consuming a wide range of organic materials.

Flexible Feed

BSFL can grow on a large variety of wet and dry feedstock. Performance can be optimized by balancing the energy they get from starches, sugars, and lipids and the digestibility of their protein (that’s where we come in.)

Examples of potential feedstock (waste we can feed to the insects) include organic matter from industrial, agricultural, or retail sectors. By co-locating the insect facilities with the feedstock, we maximize the bioregional benefits . Minimal transport means minimal energy and other resource use.
